The Golden Age of Arcade Racers
Sample post: replace it with your own.
Walk into an arcade in the ’90s and the loudest corner was always the racing cabinets: big seats, real wheels and engines roaring over the music.
Built to feel fast
Arcade racers didn’t try to be realistic. They tried to be thrilling:
- Bright colors and huge scenery rushing past
- Drifts that were easy to start and satisfying to hold
- A checkpoint timer that made every second count
The cabinet was half the game
A force-feedback wheel that fought back in the corners, pedals under your feet and sometimes a seat that shook. You weren’t holding a controller; you were in the car.
Why they still work
Those games were designed so you’d understand them in ten seconds and want another go after three minutes. That design still holds up, which is why the few cabinets left are still busy.
